This plant tolerates drought and some salt.  Suitable soil is well drained, sandy or clay.  Leaves can be harvested to make tea, but a young plant will only produce enough tea leaves for 1-2 cups per year.  More mature plant will produce several cups every 2 months.  Very showy blooms but if allowed to bloom it will produce less tea leaves.
